Commissioned by The Cheltenham Trust for The Pitville Pump Room, Cheltenham.

A site-specific illustration project that reimagined a listed Georgian Pump Room as a vibrant and engaging community space. The installation was created as a proof of concept to demonstrate the venue's potential as a community-focused destination and to support plans for a permanent café.

Long-listed for the World Illustration Awards 2026 (Site Specific category).

The Brief

The brief was to design and illustrate a series of props and set pieces that would bring colour, character and activity into an underused space. The artwork needed to celebrate the history of the building while helping visitors engage with it in a new and contemporary way.

The Challenge

One of the main challenges was creating artwork that would have maximum visual impact while working within the constraints of a listed building and a limited budget. Every element needed to respond sensitively to the architecture while remaining playful, accessible and highly visible within the space.

The Outcome

The installation encouraged visitors to engage with the building in new ways and helped demonstrate the potential of the venue as an active community space. The project was used as a proof of concept to support funding applications for a permanent café, with further development of the site now underway following the success of the project.

The project was subsequently long-listed for the World Illustration Awards 2026 in the Site Specific category.
